Aero Teddy Bear

Linocut print with digital color, 2010

Jarvis T. Bear is on a mission. He has a packet of important letters to get to Old Fort Kneesock before midnight. Luckily the weather is perfect for flying, and Jarvis has flown this route many times before... why, he knows the topography and wind patterns like he knows the back of his own paw.

Red Queen, or, It's Complicated

Linocut print with digital color, 2007

This queen plays at dangerous games. Is it two people locked in conflict, or one person torn by self-recrimination? Is she the queen of hearts, diamonds, or both? Has her heart been broken, or is she eating her last meal at swordpoint, before execution? Maybe it depends on your perspective. But I suspect this conflict will never be resolved.

Here's a fabric design based on this piece.

Honey Bee Mine

Linocut print with digital color, 2007

I created this valentine for my husband in 2007, by carving a linoleum block, printing it on transparent fiber-textured vellum, and layering it over a colored heart I created in Photoshop.

Here's a fabric design based on this piece.

Skating Bunny

Linocut print with digital color, 2006

How delightful to skim over the ice, the wind in your ears, your new red scarf fluttering behind you! It's a beautiful sunny January day, and Miss Petunia Bunny is skating over the frozen river to invite her friends Millicent Weasel and Carole Kingfisher to tea and gingerbread.

This piece combines both traditional and modern techniques: hand-carved linoleum block printmaking plus digital painting. I carved the block and printed it in black ink, then scanned the print and added the color in Photoshop. The result has a sort of watercolor vintage children's book illustration look.

Prints of this piece are available on Etsy, and this design is also available on fabric.

Maryhill Heron

Linocut, 2006

I was inspired to create this piece by a bronze statue of a heron I saw at the Maryhill Museum. The museum is on an arid hilltop in Eastern Washington just north of the Columbia Gorge. I imagined the heron dreaming wistfully of the cool shady riverbanks, edged with reeds.

Netsuke Mouse

Linocut print with digital color, 2006

Netsuke Mouse begins a long journey, carryng a plum on a twig for his lunch (probably several lunches!) counterweighted by his life savings (one coin). He looks back over his shoulder sadly... how long will it be before he can return home?

Prints of this piece are available on Etsy. You can also see a fabric collection based on my linocut prints on Spoonflower.

Angel Mouse

Linocut print with digital color, 2006

A celestial tabby-striped rodent, Angel Mouse floats serenely through the starry heavens.

Prints of this piece are available on Etsy. You can also see a fabric collection based on my linocut prints on Spoonflower.

Grecian Teapot

Linocut, 2006

This is a double-layer print. First I printed the checkerboard in white ink on colored paper, and then when it had dried I printed the teapot in black ink. I then scanned the image and used Photoshop to clean up the portions of the background that showed through the teapot.
